About FIU MUN

What is FIU MUN?

FIU MUN is Florida International University's very own Model United Nations competitive program, generously sponsored by the Student Government Association. The team is currently ranked #6 in North America. It is supported by the Student Government Association at FIU-MMC and the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs.

FIU MUN is a competitive international relations team that travels 10-13 times a year to conferences at Harvard University, the University of Chicago, New York University, McGill University in Montreal, Georgetown University and more. At these conferences, students exercise skills such as analytical writing, public speaking and leadership.

The FIU MUN team has been ranked as a top 5 team in North America for the past 10 years. Our extensive training program includes an INR 4000 level class with numerous guest lecturers during each semester. The course provides an interactive environment engrossing students in the different aspects of political and international affairs.

If selected for a travel team, attending each conference is taken care of in advance by the university. Please note; however, that attendance at each conference only covers each attending students travel, hotel, and registration fees. Each attending delegate is responsible for providing their own meals. FIU MUN also hosts the annual FIU Model UN High School Conference, a Model UN conference designed for high school students.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the time commitment?

The Model UN program requires complete commitment from all of its students. Aside from normal classroom activities, membership demands that each student attend coordinated FIU MUN activities, conferences, classes, training seminars and other events not listed.

How many students will be accepted into the FIU Model UN Program?

There is no fixed number of students accepted into the program. For example, in past years, the Program has had as few as 15 delegates and as many as 75.

Are there any specific requirements to enter the FIU MUN Program?

Besides being a student that is both currently enrolled in coursework and in good academic standing, there are no formal requirements needed to join the Model UN Program at FIU. Additionally, there are no prerequisites needed to apply for each respective semester; prior experience is not needed; and class year is not factored into consideration when selecting delegates. For example, a student who is currently a senior or a junior will not receive preference over a freshman or a sophomore.

Please also note there is not a minimum GPA, preferred course major, or requisite number of credits needed to be considered. Each and every student will be evaluated on the merits of their entire interview process and treated on a first come, first serve basis. All students are welcomed to apply, but only the most qualified will be accepted into the program.
