Topic Summary
As World War II rages across Europe, the people of India are fighting their own war: the war for independence. In March 1942, the tensions lay between three major parties: the Indian National Congress (INC), the All-India Muslim League (AIML), and the British Raj. Each of these parties had different religious affiliations and goals for the future of India. INC is mostly comprised of Indian nationalists who are fighting day and night for an independent and united India. After many years of religious division and violence, the AIML’s main goal was for the creation of a separate Muslim state. Finally, the Raj was looking for power and a British win in the neverending WWII. Each party is ready to do just about anything to win, and, with the approaching Cripps Mission, things are looking tense. Delegates will be tasked with navigating the tense political, relegious, and social climate, all while forging alliances and sowing division. The fate of India is in your hands, delegates.
This is a standard crisis committee.

Crisis Director: Isabel Cardella
Isabel is a second-year Honors College student majoring in International Relations and Religious Studies. She was born in Seattle, Washington, but was raised across the United States–primarly in Indiana and Miami, Florida. Her favorite city she’s lived in is Alexandria, Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C. Isabel has long been fascinated between the relationship of state and religion, with the India–Pakistan–Bangladesh region being of special interest to her. She is pursuing these interests at FIU, studying myth and ritual in the contemporary world.
Beyond academic interests, Isabel has a great love for the outdoors. She grew up camping and hiking across the West Coast, Midwest, and Appalachia. Since moving to Florida, she makes frequent mental health retreats to the Everglades every semester. She loves writing and is a big fan of science-fiction. She is so excited to see all of your creative ideas at FIMUN!

Chair: Lorenzo de Laurentiis
Lorenzo is a first-year FIU student currently in exploratory, but moving towards the major path of Chemistry. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Lorenzo has ironically spent more time outside his homeland, living aboard in the USA and later Italy, but this has not curbed his Brazilian pride and nationalism, and he will defend his country with ferocity. A long-time history buff, he loves anything history related, and will often hyper-fixate on topics he finds interesting.
Outside of academics, Lorenzo is a huge Star Wars and sci-fi fan and has snuck several references within the background guide and will likely make several references during committee. He also enjoys playing video games with ‘the boys’. He is very excited to be chairing his first committee in FIMUN and can’t wait to see the debate this committee sparks.
