Topic Summary

The Organization of the American States will provide delegates a bilingual platform to discuss the Proliferation of Drug Trafficking in the Americas with a focus on the security, corruption, and governance challenges that fuel the crisis. In addressing drug trafficking, delegates will explore its profound impact on regional stability, democratic institutions, and civilian life. In this committee, delegates will analyze the failures and successes of past military-led actions in the region of America, deciding what will be the best course of action. By confronting one of the most persistent and violent challenges in the Western Hemisphere, the brutal reality of these communities at the front and neighboring lines of the drug war comes to the forefront of this committee's conversations. Through collaboration and in-depth discussion, actionable solutions will be drafted to ensure sustainable regional security in the face of this ongoing crisis. 

This committee is a Spanish bilingual. It will have English and Spanish speaking elements throughout its sessions.

Director: Rebeca Hernández Alvarado

Rebeca Hernández Alvarado is a senior at Florida International University pursuing a Bachelor’s in Political Science with a certificate in Latin American and Caribbean studies while on the Pre-Law track. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and currently an international student under her Mexican passport, Rebeca’s personal experiences shape her passion for migration and transnational governance. On campus, she serves as part of the executive board of the Venezuelan Student Association. She has been actively involved in Model United Nations since high school in Venezuela, participating in both national and international conferences. After a few years away, she joined FIU’s team to reconnect with one of her greatest passions. Outside of school, she enjoys concerts, thrifting, going out with friends, travelling, deep conversations, and nature. She is excited to direct a committee that will discuss the complex interconnected issue that undermines security, and challenges regional stability.


 


Chair: Nadia Flores

Nadia Flores is a freshman at Florida International University, pursuing a degree in International Relations. Passionate about global affairs, diplomacy, and cross-cultural understanding, she hopes to contribute to building a more connected and inclusive world. Born and raised in Honduras, Nadia is deeply inspired by her culture’s warmth, resilience, and community spirit which continue to shape her ambitions and perspective in International Relations. Outside of academics, she enjoys spending time with friends, going to the beach, traveling and staying active at the gym. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Nadia is incredibly excited to be chairing the FIMUN bilingual general assembly committee and can’t wait to see delegates engage in meaningful discussions, showcase their diplomacy, as well as bring their creative ideas to the table.
