Topic Summary
This committee takes place in 2024–a year in which the fate of higher education is squarely in the hands of the American electorate. The Department of Education is under threat of being completely dismantled, important research may be defunded, and political views are increasingly finding their ways into university administrations and classrooms. Each delegate will represent different American university (acting as the President of that university speaking on behalf of the school) at an emergency summit to discuss a path towards the protection of universities.
There are no Position Papers required for this committee.

Director: Aidan Papke
Aidan Papke is a third year Honors College student majoring in International Relations and pursuing certificates in Agroecology, Chinese Studies, and International Logistics. This is his third time directing a specialized committee at FIMUN, and he couldn’t be more excited. Aidan is a Head Delegate on the FIU Model UN travel team and he works diligently towards improving the team’s status and culture every day. Outside of MUN, he works at Taiwan’s de facto consulate in Miami and serves as a research assistant for an upcoming book about Chinese development projects. He hopes to one day mobilize this experience towards a career in sustainable international development. All of his professional interests aside, Aidan loves being outdoors, especially in Florida’s beautiful Everglades.

Chair: Adriana Giblin
Adriana is a first-year student at FIU pursuing a degree in international relations while she navigates new Miami terrain. She has lived all over Florida, most recently in St. Augustine, and from there she founded her high school Model United Nations team. She attended Florida Gulf Coast University’s Conference as the sole public school representative and has awarded in numerous other committees as well as hosted a conference. She has a passion for child protection. Her regional interests are Latin America and India. Apart from MUN, she is an avid longboard skateboarder and enjoys spray painting and dancing. She is excited to help all coming delegates, and welcomes you to the best part of the 305.
